The Legislature has established New College of FL as the State's public honors college. New College offers an undergraduate, residential liberal arts education of the highest quaility with a distinctive academic program. It is consistently rated as one of the top institutions of higher education in America. Among its many recognitions, the College was ranked as the nation's #1 value in public higher education according to The Princeton Review's 2005 Guide to the Best 351 Colleges in America, and was ranked by The Wall Street Journal (10/26/03) second among all U.S. public institutions in placing its graudates in the top five business, medical and law schols in the country. New College helps keep the best Florida students in their home state and attracts the best out of state students to Florida where many choose to stay after graudation. This project will aid in acquiring land parcels critical to support the College's current and future operations. |

Project Description: |
Continuation of critical land acquisition efforts. The College's top two land acquisition priorities (the Antique Car Museum, located at the intersection of US 41 and University Parkway and the Circus Hall of Fame property, located at the intersection of Bay Shore Road and College Drive) are currently available for acquisition, as are three proprty parcels on 58th Street (also a College priority). The window of opportunity is now to make these acquisitions a reality. The requested $1million, when combined with approximately $3 million the College has remaining from previous land acquisition appropriations, should provide financial resources sufficient to acquire these parcels. |
