Project Description:
TOPIC: Caribbean Trade Mission Participation PLAN/OBJECTIVE: Consistent with the objectives of Enterprise Florida, the leadership role of ports as engines of commerce and maximization of international trade opportunities, the Port of Palm Beach is leading a Caribbean trade mission Feb. 27-March 3, in conjunction with the World Trade Center Palm Beach. The port already has committed $20,000 to the mission, which is to include meetings and less formal interactions between government and business leadership of the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas and officials and businesspeople from the Palm Beach County area. Trade missions historically have served to generate extensive new business for participants while solidifying ties across international borders, and we expect this mission in particular to be especially effective in light of the strong relationship between our port and our county and the island nations we will be visiting. We are hoping that we get significant participation from those who may never have availed themselves of import-export opportunities - including leaders of small and medium-size business in the Tri-Cities area (Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay), with which the Port of Palm Beach has engaged in an economic initiative over the past year. However, many of these individuals, and others who might benefit from participation, may not be in a position to cover the $1,650-per-person cost, so we are hopeful that funding in the amount of $20,000 may be granted so that we can ensure the mission's success, including maximum participation from those who may derive the greatest benefit, which in turn benefits our Florida economy
