The South Florida NORC project is a federally funded demonstration project to provide services to seniors, through a grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services' Administration on Aging. The project was undertaken by the Greater Miami Jewish Federation in cooperation with the Jewish Federations of Broward, South Palm Beach and West Palm Beach and their respective Jewish family service agencies. The goal of NORC is to develop a model which could be expanded statewide in which seniors are able to remain living independently in their own homes.

Project Description:
For the 2005-2006 year, each of the four Jewish Federations, in consultation togehter with their respective local family service agencies who manage the NORC projects, have identified services in all four projects for which funding is being requested from the Florida Legislature in order to continue the Southeast Florida NORC project.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
The project seeks to empower the seniors to better access existing community based services as well as to train and empower other seniors to help their neighbors in need of assistance. With neighbor helping neighbor and better use of community resources, the State will significantly benefit by less utilization of constly state Medicaid funded nursing home beds.
