Project Description:
The Florida 4-H program aspires to reach American Camping Association standards through the creation of structures, policies, and procedures that meet ACA standards and that provide a safe and inclusive outdoor environment where youth can learn. The purpose of the Florida 4-H-a Higher Standard of Camping is to obtain American Camping Association accreditation for the four residential camps associated with the University of Florida IFAS Extension. Achievement of ACA accreditation, along with a recently completed long-range plan, will set the standards for the state camping program for years to come. This will impact four camp managers, 67 4-H agents and 4,000 youth across Florida.

Extension Agents and Camp Managers will promote health and safety practices, and effective management through ACA accreditation, certification, and education programs; Florida 4-H camps will be more safe and secure; young campers and their counselors will be better prepared during camp experiences; and all camps will have an effective communication strategy in emergencies.
