The purpose of this Community Budget Request is to improve the business capacity of Lowry Park Zoo (the top-attended nonprofit attraction in Florida), and to enable Lowry Park Zoo to operate as a model of self-sufficiency as a nonprofit organization in the State of Florida. Lowry Park Zoo is the number one family-friendly zoo in the U.S. (Child Magazine) and recognized by the State of Florida as a center for wildlife conservation and biodiversity (HB457).

Project Description:
The 10,000 sq. ft. Saunders Pavilion at Lowry Park Zoo, the largest covered site for annual fund-raising and revenue-generating catered events throughout the year, is open-sided and not air-conditioned. Use of the pavilion for exhibit space and rentals is restricted to days without inclement weather and only in cooler seasons. Funding will provide for enclosing the pavilion, renovating restroom and catering kitchen facilities, and installing air conditioning.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
It is estimated that Lowry Park Zoo currently loses as much as $400,000 a year in earned revenue by not having a covered, climate controlled site that can accommodate 400 or more seated guests year-round.
