Project Title: Community Care for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Citizens Date Submitted 1/13/2005 3:15:28 PM

Sponsors: Jones

Statewide Interest:
The Deaf and Hearing Connection for Tampa Bay is a non-profit organization that is requesting a state appropriation to provide services specifically to deaf and hard of hearing citizens in Pinellas County. There is no other local agency providing case management services specifically to deaf and hard of hearing adults using American Sign Language. There are approximately 168,000 deaf and hard of hearing citizens in the Tampa Bay area and the cost of providing sign language interpreting for case management and counseling is $55 per hour which can be avoided by having services provided by deaf professionals or those who are proficient in American Sign Language. This project has the support of Pinellas County stakeholders.
