| The Deaf and Hearing Connection for Tampa Bay is a non-profit organization that is requesting a state appropriation to provide services specifically to deaf and hard of hearing citizens in Pinellas County. There is no other local agency providing case management services specifically to deaf and hard of hearing adults using American Sign Language. There are approximately 168,000 deaf and hard of hearing citizens in the Tampa Bay area and the cost of providing sign language interpreting for case management and counseling is $55 per hour which can be avoided by having services provided by deaf professionals or those who are proficient in American Sign Language. This project has the support of Pinellas County stakeholders. |

| Project Description: |
| Funding for 1 case manager and 1 client assistant to work with deaf and hard of hearing citizens in Pinellas county. A case management office would be centrally located in Pinellas County for deaf and hard of hearing adults. Mental Health Counseling services through the Deaf and Hearing Connection's licensed mental health counselor would be provided on an hourly basis as needed at this facility. In addition, funding would be used to aid the organization in providing other vital services including community education, counseling, case management, hearing aids and evaluations, for deaf and hard of hearing citizens throughout Pinellas County and to support the agency's 54-unit apartment complex for low income deaf and hard of hearing residents. |

Auxiliary services including community education hearing screening and telephone distribution that would be expanded in North Pinellas County would reach an additional 500-1,000 resident per year. |
