Regional Bridge Evaluation Study

Requester: City of Gulf Breeze Organization: Florida-Alabama Regional Transportation Planning Organization

Project Title: Regional Bridge Evaluation Study Date Submitted 1/13/2005 7:59:31 AM

Sponsors: Clary, Peaden

Statewide Interest:
The State of Florida Department of Transportation is about to embark upon the replacement of the functionally obsolete Pensacola Bay Bridge with federal bridge replacement funds for approximately $250 million. While this appears to be a benefit to local and statewide drivers and taxpayers, a replacement bridge six (6) lanes wide in the current location will cause untold statewide and local costs as appurtenant and adjoining facilities would need to be upgraded. Bridge replacement funds would not be available for these costs.

The ripple effects of replacing the current bridge with a six (6) lane facility or associated facilities would be summarized and compared to other alternatives.
