The Children's Psychiatric Center, Inc. (CPC) and All-Aboard Educational Services strives to meet the needs of Florida's children by increasing the literacy rates among young children which is this program's main gaol. This year CPC and All-Aboard is expanding services to inner-city schools and neighborhoods by providing tutoring/mentoring and other educational program services via the CPC/ALL-ABOARD MOBILE UNIT. This mobile unit will work with collaboration with The City of Miami Police Department and the SAFEZONE PROJECT to provide additional educational services, literacy and personal safety training to children and will include services that encourage and promote parental involvement. In addition, the mobile unit will provide and educational internship opportunity for local college students to gain experience working with inner-city children. This unique educational setting will provide a highly visible component that will promote the importance of literacy and educational services for disadvantaged youths throughout Miami-Dade County. |

Project Description: |
All-Aboard Educational Services provides a myriad of services to at-risk children in Miami-Dade County. The All-Aboard Tutoring/Mentoring Program is an early interventoin project which assists children who are experiencing academic failure, functioning below grade level or illiterate by recruiting, training, and placing academic tutors/mentors to work one-on-one with the children in public elementary schools. The program excels in keeping low achieving and minority students from being retained. This translates into a reduction in grade level retention and a reduction in future dropout rates. In addition, this tutoring/mentoring component increases self-esteem and academic success. |
