Project Description:
The CABA Pro Bono Project was formed in 1984 in response to the needs of indigent Spanish speaking people who did not have access to Spanish speaking lawyers and the courts. The CABA Pro Bono Project operates under a Family Court blanket waiver of the local rule requiring that pro se litigants go through the Family Court Self Help Project, which was granted by the Court in 1998. The CABA Pro Bono Project was nationally recognized as a Point of Light by President George Bush. The cases are generally in the area of family law but there are also needs in the following areas: adoption, bankruptcy, birth and marriage certificate amendment, consumer issues, court order enforcment, disability, foreclosure, guardianship, immigration, insurance, landlord/tenant, name change, and other civil matters.

With this additional funding, CABA will provide additional pro bono legal services to indigent Spanish speaking people in the areas of family law, adoption, bankruptcy, birth and marriage certificate amendment, consumer issues, court order enforcement, disability, foreclosure, guardianship, immigration, insurance, landlord/tenant, name change, and other civil matters.
