Project Description: |
The project is to construct a new library. The library will occupy 85,000 square feet of the City Center mixed use redevelopment project which will be used exclusively for public library purposes. The area being considered has all the key elements for selection of a library site. These include proximity to schools, churches, shopping centers, athletic fields, easy access from a major road, good lighting, good drainage, and access by both pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The City of West Palm Beach submitted a Public Library Construction Grant application requesting $500,000 on April 1, 2004. The Public Library Construction Grant Program provides state funding to governments for the construction of public libraries. The grant has been reviewed and approved by the Department of State's Division of Library & Information Services and was recommended for full funding pending legislative approval during the 2005 Legislative Session. The project was ranked #3 of all 2004 grant submissions statewide out of the total of 20 projects recommended for funding by the Legislature. |
