Statewide Interest: |
The statewide interest is geared towards having professional individuals in various sectors of academia, mental & physical healthcare providers, family counselors, emergency management, and small business development professionals who will utilize their training to provide assistance to Colombians in their home country, therefore, expanding the outreach of the state in the Americas. With the largest percentage of Colombians in the United States residing in the state of Florida according to the 2000 Census Report, the funding will address a direct interest of the Colombian-American residents of Florida that contribute to the economy of the state. Lastly, with increase in the socio-economic stability in Colombia, Florida would be a directo benefactor of international business and trade with Colombia, one of the interests of Governor Bush. |

Project Description: |
The Florida Association for Volunteer Action in the Caribbean (F.A.V.A.C.A.)and the Americas in partnership with a Colombian-American organization working in the development field will assist community leaders to refine their skills and education on effective techniques and strategies to effectively apply and maximize available resources used for social and economic development purposes in Colombia. Services will range primarily from training in fields of social and economic development, such as peer counseling, conflict resolution, organizational development, Social Work administration, Domestic Violence prevention, Emergency medical training, family counseling, parenting education, site disaster management (National Emergency Plan), developmental & advocacy training for disabled children to Women's empowerment and leadership, financial literacy, team building and employment skills, capacity building, and counseling for troubled teens. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Within the projects mentioned, the results will be a decrease number of cases reported of domestic violence, more effectiv use of resources (measured by a pre-post analysis), increase in human interdependence and self-sufficiency and an overally increase in community solidarity. |
