Project Description: |
To help ensure that every Florida student can attain a fundamental understanding of the free enterprise system, Junior Achievement is requesting $1,000,000 to advance Junior Achievement's mission in educating and inspiring young people to value free enterprise, business and economics to improve the quality of their lives and the lives of their future families and members of their communities.
Junior Achievement does this by recruiting community-based volunteers to visit local school classrooms and neighborhood after-school centers. These dedicated business volunteers deliver Junior Achievement's time-tested and approved activity-based education programs to share their stories with the students. Serving as mentors, JA volunteers also serve as role models to help students develop the skills and insights necessary to become successful in life and to aid them in building sustainable communities for the future.
Junior Achievement's economic and financial literacy education programs are designed to help a child better understand his or her role in the local and global economy, the privileges and responsibilities inherent in a free enterprise system, socioeconomic development and the many opportunities available to be secured with knowledge, education, and hard work. Junior Achievement programs have been developed for students in grades kindergarten through 12th.
249,966 Florida students participated in Junior Achievement programs during the 2003-04 school year. Junior Achievement is primarily funded through the generosity of the private sector (approximately 90%).
State funding will be dispersed throughout the Junior Achievement service areas in Florida (listed above) with Junior Achievement of Central Florida serving as the designated custodian of the grant.
