Project Description: |
The University of North Florida desires to construct a building to provide additional space for the College of Education & Human Services. The College of Education is currently comprised of three academic divisions (Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Services & Research, and Technology & vocational Education) plus an office of Student Services, a multi-media learning laboratory, and the Center for Studies in Education. In addition to offering a wide array of undergraduate and beginning graduate programs, the College began offering an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership program in the Fall of 1990. Programs that prepare professional educators have, over the years, developed instructional techniques that require highly specialized, dedicated space. At the present time, very little of this type of space is available to the College. Such space is sorely needed for the special methods courses in science, music, and art. In addition, a "teaching laboratory" wherein the act of teaching by students can be observed, recorded, debriefed and otherwise thoroughly critiqued and analyzed.
School teachers and educational leaders need to be well-versed in the latest developments in instructional technology. The College is in dire need of space to assure that its graduates are properly prepared in the latest technological developments.
The proposed building will provide for additional faculty offices, specialized meeting rooms for doctoral students and specialized classroom/laboratories to provide for the appropriate training of teachers and educational leaders, as well as seminar rooms for honors program courses and general purpose classrooms. |
