Project Description: |
Founders Hall (Bldg. 2) Communications & Visual Arts (Bldg. 3) & Natural Sciences Building (Bldg.4):
This proposal would allow UNF to renovate spaces in Buildings 2 - Founders Hall for the "One Stop Shop Concept". Enrollment Services staff would be centralized and cross-trained, so students could come to One Stop Shop and receive all the information they need from one person. Enrollment Services has outgrown its current space. In 2001, the original campus plan called for their expansion into the entire first floor of Founders Hall. As the student population grows, additional space is needed to handle student services. Renovations to Bldgs. 3 and 4 which were vacated by the Art, Music, Chemistry and Physics Departments - these units have completed moves into the new Fine Arts and Science and Engineering Buildings. The renovation of Buildings 2,3 and 4 will provide faculty offices, classrooms, and upgraded laboratories essential to meet the instructional and research objectives in the growing Department of Biology and related fields.
Bldg.8 Arts & Sciences - With the future construction of the Student Union Building, the University Bookstore would be relocated leaving the first floor of the Arts & Sciences available for renovations. This space would be converted to offices and classrooms for the Arts & Sciences Department.
Bldg. 9 Schultz Hall - The current occupancy of the Social Science building includes a variety of non-social science units. The social sciences addition and renovation will provide an opportunity to bring all the social science units together. Possible units would include Sociology and Criminology, the Institute of Government, the Department of Political Science, Public Administration and the Center of Local Initiatives. This should encourage greater cross collaboration and interdisciplinary research and programming among these units.
Bldg. 14 Andrew Robinson Center - The University intends to remodel and do major renovation work on Building 14, the Andrew Robinson Center, including renovations of those portions of the building that are general use facilities, but most commonly used for academic purposes. This project would also include a major basic overhaul of Robinson Auditorium, which has a primary classroom usage, and is in great need of refurbishing - one of our older buildings.
Bldg. 39 - J.Brooks Brown Hall - The College of Health has grown significantly since originally occupying J. Brooks Brown Hall in 1994. Because of the lack of space for labs, the university has been unable to apply for a grant in this area and have turned down opportunities for donated equipment. Additionally, the local hospitals gave over $1million dollars to expand the School of Nursing. This expansion has further resulted in larger class sizes, excessive crowding, and the need for even more faculty offices and labs/classrooms. Enrollment growth within the College of Health will require future expansion and renovation into the space currently occupied by the Department of Psychology which is on the fourth floor of this building.
