Project Description: |
Families Operating Communicating Unyielding Solutions (FOCUS) will enroll a minimum of twenty-five (25) youth and their families, not to exceed thrity (30) youth and families per program year. FOCUS was designed to generate motivation and long-term commitment to the program among participants.
Educational component will consist of GED preparation, enhanced instructions in reading and math, skill building excercises and social development. Each participant will have the opportunity to discover career opportunities through utilization of the public library, job shadowing, and job training. The educational tutoring will be conducted by not less than four (4) Miami-Dade County certified teachers, with each being responsible for not more than six (6) participants.
Additionally, each participant will have family or individual counseling available to assess emotional needs; group sessions to address topics such as but not limited to communication and social skills development, teen parent group, abstinence, health and excercise and other topics. counseling sessions will be conducted by certified counselors and be available for other topics as well as a personal trainer for exercise and health sessions. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Through this program, we are expecting the 20% of the high school dropouts will receive GED diplomas, reading and math skills will improve by 80%. Teens in the program will abstain from sexual activity and that youth and families will become closer through increase communications skills. |
