Project Description: |
Community Voice Mail (www.cvm.org) is a national nonprofit that empowers people in crises and transition by providing a tangible tool they need to succeed; a consistent telephone number. Community Voice Mail network spans 37 sites in 19 states and including Pinellas and Orange Counties.
The Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County, Inc. will be responsible for managing the service. The Coalition will provide the voice mail numbers to other participating agencies who then assign the numbers to the clients. The key to the program is the fact that people who are homeless will receive a local telephone number at which to receive messages, therefore employers and case workers can utilize CVM to stay in consistent contact with their potential employees or clients, doubling the impact of the service and an increase in self-sufficiency through employment.

Community Voice Mail Results
In 2003, over 47,000 people in crises and transition nationwide had access to a safe, reliable place to recieve messages over 1,900 social and health services agencies had access to a needed tool for service delivery.
By eliminating phonelessness as a barrier to self-suffiency
30% of CVM users wil be able to obtain employment
30% of CVM users will obtain housing
30% of CVM users will achieved "safe environment" (fleeing domestic abuse)
30% of CVM users will received health services
In 2003 over 8000 Homeless people were counted. Our anticipated goal is to have 30% of the CVM users reach their goals within the first year of using the service. CVM users will help them look for work, look for housing, receive medical/health services and have a safe place for messages.
The isolation and disconnection of people without a phone number cannot be overestimated. Community Voice Mail re-opens often closed to those most in need, helping them regain lost ground and get back on track to self-sufficiency. |
