Statewide Interest: |
Good Samaritan Clinic provides free medical care to patients in Pasco County, keeping them out of the local hospital emergency departments and Pasco County Health Department Clinic. Good Samaritan also started the first Hepatitis C free clinic in the U.S. in 2001 and will soon begin a pilot program with the Pasco County Sheriff's Department by treating inmates with the disease. Pasco County population has increased 23% in the last ten years, requiring the expansion of the clinic. |

Project Description: |
The Good Samaritan Health Clinic of Pasco is the only clinic in Pasco County to treat the uninsured and underserved medically needy residents ages 16-65. The clinic offers dental services as well as many medical services including gynecological, pulmonary and asthma, cardiology, urology and Hepatitis C. The volunteer staff includes doctors, specialists, nurses, pharmacists and clerical staff. The clinic has been housed in a modular building since 1993. The building is deteriorating and is infested with termites, and has become much too small for the staff to carry on daily duties with the increased patient population. Patients numbers in 2004 increased by 40% over 2003. The building that they will be purchasing will cost approximately $700,000. The clinic is requesting $300,000 from the state and $400,000 through the local Community Development Block Grant Division of Pasco County who manages funds for Housing and Urban Development grants. |
