Project Description:
The beds that are available for children and adolescents living in shelters run by Jacksonville Youth Sanctuary have been cited for inappropriate medication management. There has to be immediate corrective action taken for these beds to continue to be available in District 4. The purpose of this request is to develop a medical component of Jacksonville Youth Sanctuary to administer medications to children and adolescents at risk living in a group setting. The requested funds money would allow for appropriate medical equipment, training, design and implementation of tracking systems, facility improvements, medical personnel and direct services of medication management for children and adolescents. This is a non-recurring request. Once services are up and running this will allow JYS to apply for grants and matching funds.

Is this a project related to 2004 hurricane damage? No

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
1. The appropriate monitoring of medications to children and adolescents within JYS facilities 2. The ability to accept children and adolescents with serious behavioral issues who need medication management 3. The increased ability to accept children and adolescents who are currently in the Child Welfare System and cannot be placed in a foster home because of serious behavioral issues which need to be stabilized before placement 4. With appropriate medication management children and adolescents could possibly be diverted from placement in foster care by medically stabilizing the child or adolescent and working with the family members around behavioral issues.
