The City of Starke Fire Department is the only fire department in Bradford County that is paid full time. All other departments are all-volunteer. The City of Starke Fire Department is designated as the regional response for the Local Emergency Planning Council #3. Members of the department have been trained to the technician level qualifying them to mitigate Haz Mat situations. Therefore, in the context of Floridas statewide domestic security strategy, they are the first response team that serves the Bradford County area and they are part of a collaboration of units that cooperate to provide services throughout the region (including the Jacksonville/Duval County area) in the event of major disasters. It is essential that their mobile vehicles (including the HAZMAT unit) are preserved to facilitate immediate, effective and coordinated responses. With the addition of the HAZMAT vehicle and a newer model pumper to supplement the previously existent antiquated equipment, the fire Department has outgrown their old quarters and requires additional vehicle storage. |
