Project Title: Okeechobee County Wastewater Expansion and Improvements Date Submitted 1/14/2005 11:36:29 AM

Sponsors: Alexander

Statewide Interest:
This project is located in a Rural Area of Critical Economic Concern, as designated by the Governor, pursuant to Chapter 228.0656. This wastewater expansion project protects the waters of the State of Florida, preventing further pollution into Lake Okeechobee, Taylor Creek and the Everglades Ecosystem by removing failed and failing Wastewater Package Plants and private septic systems that have been infiltrating and intruding into the Lake Okeechobee Rim Canal, Taylor Creek and Nubbins Slough. The present system will reach useful capacity and a moratorium maybe required that will lead to decline in economic successes in the area and has the potential for health and life safety degradation.
