Operation I-95 Alive

Requester: Sheriff Jack Parker Organization: Brevard County Sheriff's Office

Project Title: Operation I-95 Alive Date Submitted 1/13/2005 5:21:45 PM

Sponsors: Posey

Statewide Interest:
The Brevard County Sheriff's Office proposes to conduct an aggressive traffic enforcement campaign in coordination with state and local law enforcement agencies utilizing both highly visible and covert patrols. In addition to this enforcement effort, portable electronic message boards will caution drivers of the aggressive enforcement efforts. This effort will focus on: speed control, careless driving, improper lane changes, improper passing, and following too closely,as well as secondary violation seat belt enforcement. Enforcement packs of five deputies and a working patrol supervisor will randomly set up traffic enforcement points during peak congestion hours along the 70 miles of Interstate 95 in Brevard County. These units will strategically perform both traveling and stationary patrols using dual antennas talker radars. Additionally,as needed, covert traffic enforcement vehicles will simultaneously target aggressive drivers who are out of the view of uniform vehicles. This enforcement initiative will detect and deter aggressive and care less driving that leads to traffic accidents, which culminate in injuries and fatalities. The Brevard County Sheriff's Office will reduce the accident rate and loss of life on Interstate 95 in Brevard County, ultimately reducing the traffic fatality rate in the State of Florida.
