Project Description: |
Phase I Demonstration Project Focus on Lung Cancer-Moffitt Total Cancer Care (MTCC) will close the gap between innovations & care to consider the best cancer care for the patient through the philosophy of "Right Care at the Right Place at the Right Time". Lung cancer caused 12,000 deaths in Florida in 2003, making it the state's leading cancer killer of men and women.
It will place the focus on the patient, not just the disease. MTCC is a management system based on the development of evidence-based guidelines by partnering with the community (through the Cancer Center's 12-member affiliate Florida network) to achieve:
 Patients will have access to improved cancer treatment and outcomes through customized care;
 Patients will get world-class specialized care, close to home;
 Patient will have greater opportunities to enroll in clinical trials;
 Patients will benefit from quick "bench to bedside" access to scientific research and proven therapies;
 Communities will have the chance to benefit from preventive protocols for at-risk segments of their population;
 Patients will have increased access to molecular analysis technology for select community partners (2-3 of current 13);
 New internet and telemedicine technology will be utilized to create network information systems throughout the State of Florida;
 More people will have the opportunity to be evaluated by the impact of molecular analysis on diagnosis, prognosis and potential treatment strategies;
 More people will be able to take advantage of scale for analysis of outcome on standard of care in their community with the growth of the number of affiliates involved over time; and
 Treatments guidelines will be developed based on evidence.
