Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Improve the Quality of life for those you serve! The Snoezelen concept centers on offering people with dementia, disabilities, autism and other challenging conditions the oppurtunity to enjoy and control a variety of sensory experiences. These populations rarely, if ever experience the world as most of us do. Limitations of movement, vision, hearing, cognitive ability, behavioral difficulties, perception issues, pain and other problems create obstacles to their enjoyment of life. This sort of existence creates agitation and anger from being so frustrated all the time. Then they act out and some have to be medicated.
Snoezelen transcends age and ability to offer caregivers the chance to discover how specially tailored, population specific, multisensory experiences can benefit individual clients. Snoezelen provides a stimulating atmosphere to heighten awareness, an interesting atmosphere to allow residents to explore their world in a no fail environment and the security to allow residents to relax physically and mentally. Whether used for therapeutic gain or simply for recreational use pleasure and relaxation,, research validates that the absorbing environment created by Snoezelen can effect positive, real and lasting changes in mood and behavior, relationships, and lowers frustration levels, and the need for psychoactive medications. This in turn improves the quality of life for our residents. |
