Project Description: |
The American Red Cross of Greater Miami and the Keys seeks to be the leader in Community Preparedness for all hazards, from those affecting single families, such as fires, to those that threaten all of Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties, such as hurricanes and terrorist attacks. The Red Cross is not federally or state funded. All expenditures incurred responding to hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne are funded through voluntary donations. In order to become the leader in Community Preparedness, the Chapters need to institute its Community Disaster Education program and to conduct a comprehensive outreach campaign targeting our diverse community. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Funds will increase the capacity of individuals to take responsibility to help themselves and be able to prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters and emergencies so they can help themselves, their families, their friends and their neighbors and gain better control of their own situations. The funds will also save the government expenditures for individual disaster relief. Some emergencies will be prevented, the harmful effects of others will be reduced, and the government will not spend as much helping those who are afflicted to recover. The funds will also translate into more Red Cross volunteers, more Red Cross services, fewer government services, and less government spending. |
