Statewide Interest: |
Support of one of Florida's most precious resources, its people, specifically our senior population. The growing senior population of Lake Mary and surrounding areas participate in a limited number of aging independence activities due to limited space allocation and lack of a full-time director at their current location. The space problem will be resolved upon the seniors moving to the new Lake Mary Municipal Building in February 2005. However, the ability to provide more programs and activities will be restrictive without a full-time director on site to plan, develop and manage the center. By instituting an administrator, this facility will provide many services to the growing senior population in Lake Mary and Seminole County areas, enabling seniors to remain active and independent thereby increasing their chances of living with their spouses, individually or with family rather than residing in skilled nursing facilities. |

Project Description: |
The provision of a full-time director for the Adult Activity Center will enable consistent management of senior activities and programs, thereby achieving senior independence. Services include, but are not limited to health and informational fairs, physical activity (Tai Chi, line dancing, Sittercise, games), mental stimulation and social interaction (computer classes, art classes, card playing), counseling (grief), community involvement (Project LINUS, stuffed toys for underprivileged children, hats for Cancer patients, working with local hospitals). |
