Project Description: |
Since 1980, the Sistrunk Festival and Parade have provided education, entertainment, unity and cultural enrichment. It has become bigger and better each year. It is also a celebration of African-American History Month and the accomplishments of people of African descent.
The Parade includes many high schools bands and local organizations. The festivities continue with a festival. About 10 years ago, we had the festival on the Sistrunk Corridor (street). However, due to cost increases, we have had the festival in a park in recent years. A street-type festival will revitalize the businesses on the Sistrunk Corridor.
The community has expressed a need for the festival to be on the street, we could make this possible with additional funding.
