Statewide Interest: |
The Everglades ecosystem is critical to the future of Florida's overall ecological health. Ongoing multi-billion dollar restoration efforts are not well understood by the general public, and there is a pressing need to educate Floridians and people all over the nation about this unique ecosystem and the need to restore it to its original vitality. Funding for these restoration efforts is derived from the federal and state budget. Therefore, it is incumbent on the state to provide information to the public to justify the fiscal resources that are being dedicated to these efforts. |

Project Description: |
The Museum of Science & Industry is a regionally significant cultural and educational asset whose staff and consultants are uniquely qualified for this proposal. This request is for funds for the production of an IMAX film that tells the story of the Everglades. The film will provide a comprehensive explanation of this unique ecosystem and educate the public about the multi-billion dollar restoration efforts. Additionally, MOSI's educational staff will develop a curriculum guide that may accompany the film for use by educational institutions (in both hard-copy and internet formats). |
