Statewide Interest:
Current shortage of flu vaccine has brought into focus the need to accelerate research into these new technologies for production of flu vaccine. The Institute will potentially generate approximately 2000 new jobs in the product and related support industries. Will also serve as a catalyst resulting in development of & increase in several industries emerging in this part of the state.

Project Description:
To establish a state-of-the art Florida Vaccine Research Institute at the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at FAMU. The institute will research and develop a cleaner, faster approach to producing flu vaccine that could use mammalian cells & other mediums. Create a biotechnology research focus at FAMU that will enable the discovery of new methods of vaccine origination & production.
