The widening of State Route 68 will provide safer transportation. The narrowness of this highway has resulted in increased fatalities and more than 200 accidents in the past two years.

Project Description:
This project involves the reconstruction of State Road 68 to provide a two lane roadway with 4' wide paved shoulders and 8' wide stabilized shoulders on each side. St. Lucie County has recently widened the road to 24', but lacks funding to construct needed road shoulders.

Safer State highway and improved emergency evacuation route given that vehicles with mechanical failures will be able to use road shoulders and will not impede traffic.
