| Project Description: |
| The Hernando Beach Channel was evaluated under the Continuing Authorities Program to make appropriate, coordinated and implemental solutions to identified navigation problems. Problems identified with the existing channel indicate that commercial and recreational vessels having to pass in the narrow channel and narrow turns with insufficient visibility. Evidence of these problems include high and an increasing frequency of vessels grounding with damage, which causes great hardship on the commercial fisherman for their livelihood. The project would widen the channel and remove dangerous rocks and boulders within the existing channel. |

| The maintenance dredge will enhance the use of the Hernando Beach Channel by deepening and widening to bring the channel back to the original state as per the criteria set by the permitting approved by the Dept. of Environmental Protection.The County and DEP will look at all dangerous areas that prevent the Commercial Fisherman and other mariners from accessing the Gulf of Mexico |
