| Project Description: |
| The continued implementation of an aftercare program for Dual Diagnosed (Mental Illness and Substance Abuse) individuals involved or at-risk for involvement in the Criminal Justice System. The prisons/jails are currently occupied by individuals who are mentally ill and/or substance abusers or have co-occurring illness. The explosion in America's prison population during these past two decades is due overwhelmingly to criminal activity linked to drug and alcohol abuse. At the same time the crininal justice system is overwhelmed with the Mentally Ill due to lack of community based alternative aftercare. 50% of state parole and probation violators were under the influence of drugs, alcohol or both when they committed their new offense. Inmates who are alcohol and drug abusers and Mentally ill are the most likely to be reincarcerated - again and again. Across the State of Florida, there is a mentally ill division plan- from jails to community based care. The treatment bill. It is even more imperative that the Community based resources be available and accessible for the family members to get treatment for their Mentally relatives. |

| Funds now expended on rearrest and reimprisonment for these individuals can be reduced and this will assist in reduction of criminal acts that are drug related and it consequences. Reduction in recidivism rates for incarceration. |
