Project Description:
This request is for the continuation of the C-139 Basin Initiative (Fiscal Year 2004-2005 Project Tracking #417) which focuses on phosphorus source control opportunities including cost-sharing BMP implementation. The program assists landowners in implementing BMP projects anticipated to significantly reduce phosphorus discharges and that are typically delayed or avoided because of high cost. Requested funds for Fiscal year 2005-2006 will continue the existing C-139 and Western Basins BMP Grant Program which was initiated in 2002. These funds will be combined with $250,000 funded by the Everglades Trust Fund, and supplemented with Landowners cost-share contributions (cash and in-kind, to be determined). Funds will also be used to identify other cost-effective regional and on-farm source control opportunities within these priority basins.
