The proposed project will help protect the environment by providing an effective stormwater drainage system that will collect and pre-treat stormwater runoff prior to discharge, reduce flooding and standing water, reduce the impacts of localized flooding and provide a primary drainage outfall. The collect result will be a major benefit to the environment. |

Project Description: |
The Aventura Hospital District, extending from NE 213th Street to NE 209th Street, west of Biscayne Boulevard.
The objective for this project will be to improve the drainage and traffic capacity of the roadways within this area, which serve as important arterial roadways within the City. These roadways also provide access off of Biscayne Boulevard to the City's Hospital and Medical Center. The drainage element of the project will include tie in to the N.E. 213th Street storm water collector system, which is part of the City's master plan. Completion of this project will improve the overall stromwater management system of the hospital district in the City and will help minimize flooding during peak rainfall events. In addition, the roadway improvements will improve traffic circulation, which will aid in the evacuation efforts, should that become necessary during an emergency, as well as ingress and egress into the City's Hospital and Medical Center.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
The hospital district is a triangular area located in the northwest corner of the City. The Aventura Hospital is located in this area and is prone to flooding hazards. Drainage infrastructure in these areas is either non-existent or outdated, and does not meet current standards. Additionally, portions of these areas are not connected to a sanitary sewer system. Therefore, some properties utilize septic systems. When flooding occurs in these areas, there is the additional hazard of groundwater contamination from the septic systems. The proposed project involves significant drainage improvements to an area that is subject to frequent flooding and extended periods of standing water. Currently drainage is provided within roadside swales and isolated exfiltration systems. Overall the existing drainage system is wholly inadequate. Furthermore, the single family residential homes in the project area are served by septic tanks which are adversly impacted during heavy rains and the South Florida rainy season. The proposed project will help protect the environment in the followings ways: 1) provide an effective drainage system that will be designed to collect and pretreat stormwater runoff prior to discharge; 2) reduce flooding and standing water throughout the study area; 3) reduce the impacts of a high water table and localized flooding on private septic tanks; 4) provide a primary drainage outfall which will provide increased flood protection and the ability to "bleed down" the secondary drainage systems within the project area. The collective result will be a major benefit to the environment. |
