Project Description: |
Provide graduate education support to Florida residents who qualify for admission to the Ph.D. program at the RSMAS of the University of Miami, the only subtropical applied and basic marine and atmospheric sciences research institute of its kind in the continental United States. |
|
Is this a project related to 2004 hurricane damage? |
No |
|
Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
An increase in advanced degrees in marine and atmospheric sciences in the Florida workforce. In Florida and nationally, there exists a shortage of qualified researchers and instructors in the fields of oceanography, marine chemistry, and geology. Even though there is a strong national and international demand for RSMAS graduates, 68% of the Postsecondary Planning Commission-contracted Ph.D. students remain in the state of Florida after graduation. |
