Project Description: |
Gateway is seeking funding to provide services to children and families that will form the building blocks needed to help the children develop to the fullest potential and overcome the challenges they face due to the "wreckage" of their parents substance using days. Beyond traditional child care, this program seeks to: 1). Provide a comprehensive assessment (physical/medical, bio-psychosocial, educational) of all children entering Gateway Community Services with their parent, 2). Provide the parent with education regarding the results of the assessment to help them understand their child's needs (psychological, social, emotional, biological and educational), 3). With the parent, develop a wellness plan for the child, 4). Educate and assist the parent in linking with all health and wellness services identified in the wellness plan, 5) provide a stimulating personalized developmental program for each child while the parent is in substance abuse treatment and then with parent and child together for at least one hour each day after treatment, 6) Follow the family for at least 6 months to provide in-home education/support and to assure ongoing participation in wellness plan. |
