A fifth ADI model adult day care wil be established for individuals with Alzheimer's disease. It is a teaching adult day care, designed to provide state-wide audiences with innovative care ideas, behavioral research outcomes, and interventions. In addition, care will delay or substitute for more costly Medicaid-funded nursing home care, which impacts the Medicaid budget. It is the first state university-sponsored adult day care center. |

Project Description: |
FAU's Memory and Wellness Center's adult day center is to be designated as Florida's 5th ADI Model Day Care site, the only one in Palm Beach or Broward Counties. Services include daily care for 100 patients in the first year, including innovative activities in two designated centers- mild and moderate levels. Centers to serve as teaching adult day centers for behavioral and activities research, nursing student teaching site, social work student teaching site, and pre-med student teaching site. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
100 individulas will be provided care in the first year. 75% will avoid nursing home placement at more expensive Medicaid reimbursed rates. Innovative care techniques and interventions will be shared with other adult day care centers in the state who care for dementia patients to increase their success rates in keeping participants out of nursing homes. |
