Project Description: |
December 2003 the City of Marianna,Jackson County, and Family Dollar Distribution Center went into an agreement, which resulted in Family Dollar establishing a new facility in Marianna. Part of the agreement would be that the city would provide an Emergency response in the area. The emergency substation would allow the city to provide better coverage, quicker response to emergencies, and better training facilities. In Feb. 2004 the city applied for the Emergency Management Prepardness and Assistance Municipal Grant program. The funding request was for $50,000. Although a match was not required, the city would have to provide all the construction work (in-kind) and additional funding to complete the project. The request was not funded. This year the Dept. of Community Affairs, emergency Managment Division personnel have explained to the city staff that the grants are available for funding, but some of the previously unfunded grants may be elgible for funding. The city has not initiated improvements for the Police Department to relocate the facility. To complete this project, the City of Marianna requests assistance with obtaining funding under this grant program and also using some of the funding applied for under the EMPA Competitive Grant program applied for to be used on the same building for the City Fire Department. |
