Statewide Interest: |
Serving over 30 million passengers in 2004, Orlando International Airport (MCO) is our state's largest commercial service airport and the 5th busiest Origination and Destination Airport in the United States. Similarly, aviation-related commerce is anticipated to rebound at a significant rate. During the past five years, several major corporations have developed business operations on airport such as Fed Ex, Continental, Jet Blue, Southwest, Flight Safety and Cessna. These partners help MCO to generate over $20 billion in yearly economic impact to our region and state.
In order to accommodate future aviation development opportunities as outlined in the Land Use section of the 2004 MCO Mast Plan and meet future capacity requirements, it is important for key ports of entry such as MCO to have the necessary road infrastructure in place.

Project Description: |
Cargo Road will be extended from its current terminus west of Airport Boulevard to just east of the Old Terminal Building at Bear Road. Construction will include a two-lane roadway with sufficient room to expand the road to a four-lane divided highway as traffic demand warrants. The alignment has been designed to allow maximum development of the land between the existing Blue Parking Lot and Airport Boulevard. |
