Project Description: |
: The project involves the installation of a public sewer system within the residential neighborhoods known as Terra Mar Island and Bel Air in the Town of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Currently, the homes in both neighborhoods are on septic tanks and those on-site disposal systems will be removed once the new sewers are available for hook-up. In addition, storm drainage improvements are planned for the Terra Mar Island neighborhood. |
|
Is this a project related to 2004 hurricane damage? |
No |
|
Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
: A significant reduction in contaminants seeping into the groundwater is anticipated as a result of this project. A removal of the existing on-site disposal systems will eliminate the current use of septic tanks and drainfields for sewage disposal. The proposed drainage improvements in Terra Mar Island will result in pretreatment of stormwater run-off which is expected to improve water quality in the surrounding canals and waterways. It is anticipated that this project will result in reduced load reductions for suspended solids, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and other contaminants within the surrounding water bodies through the elimination of on-site disposal systems and the pre-treatment of stormwater runoff.
