The interchange improvements are necessary to improve conditions at the SR 15/SR 528 interchange and to accommodate the 8-laning of the SR 528 and the 4-laning of SR 15 to meet regional transportation needs. This project is located at the SR 528/SR 15 interchange at the NE corner of the Orlando International Airport. These improvements will also improve SR 528's operations as a hurricane evacuation route. The Orlando Orange County Expressway Authority, the Canaveral Port authority and the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority support the project. The improvements to this interchange will dramatically improve traffic circulation adjacent to Orlando International Airport (OIA) and are imperative to accommodating increasing passenger and freight movements to/from OIA and between OIA and Port Canaveral. This project will enhance intermodal linkages between an airport, a seaport, cargo facilities & future rail terminals. OIA's Master Plan includes an intermodal center to accommodate fixed guideway and transit operations that require increased access. |
