Project Description:
Critical Infrastructure-Water System Outage. In order to prevent a catastrophe such as the one that occurred in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, the Fire Department plans to take steps to secure a water supply for firefighting needs. In the event power is lost to the pumps supplying water to the City fire hydrants we will have access to water supplies. The plan is to purchase a water tanker (2500 Gallons), hard suction hoses and dry hydrants. The dry hydrants will be located in four (4) quadrants of the city. These points will allow us to draft water into the tanker to transport to the fire engines at the fire scene. This would be usable for both natural disaster and terrorist related incidents. One of the dry hydrants would be a combination Drafting Pit/Underground Tank (10,000 gallon minumum) to be located at Fire Station #2. Another would draft off the 9th Street spillway from a like. The two other locations, Sheffield Park and the recreation center, are stratagic around the City and all have ample water supplies.

Is this a project related to a federal or state declared disaster?
No |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
In the event of a total power failure due to flood, tererorist attack or other event with duration long enough to exhaust power generators at pumping stations, we will be able to draft water for fire fighting needs. This is a backup plan with 99% assurance that it will be successful.
