| Project Description: |
| Communities In Schools (CIS) is a process for engaging the entire community in a plan for intervening creatively in the lives of students at highest risk of educational, social, and economic failure. CIS emphasizes cooperation and collaboration to connect students and their families with the resources they need to not only survive but also to succeed. CIS, with its partners, provides academic remediation, educational enrichment, career awareness and employability skills, tutoring and mentoring, and other evidence-based interventions to help potential dropouts stay in school.
CIS of Florida coordinates the replication of this very successful dropout prevention program to additional Florida counties and provides ongoing training and technical assistance to operational local affiliates and coordination of program expansion, multi-site project management, and networking for continued improvement and sharing of promising intervention and prevention strategies. CIS of Florida also provides statewide advocacy and capacity building for addressing the dropout issue by sponsoring trainings, conferences, and research.
