The widening of State Road 68 will provide safer transportation. Heavy semi truck use on this currently narrow highway has resulted in increased fatalities and accidents in recent months.

Project Description:
This project involves the reconstruction fo State Road 68 to provide a two lane roadway with 4' wide paved shoulders and 8' wide stabalized shoulders on each side. St. Lucie County has recently widened the road to 24'. However, the road has no shoulders.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Safer State highway and improved emergency evacuation route given that vehicles with mechanical failure will be able to utilize road shoulders and not impede traffic.
