Statewide Interest:
The project will provide a new central sewer service that will eliminate approximately 600 individual septic tanks which currently contribute to the water quality degradation of the northeast region of the Choctawhatchee Bay. The Bay is a SWIM Priority Water-body in NWFWMD and it is on the 303(d) List of Impaired Waters per Clean Water Act. The project would also reduce adverse pollution conditions for the Choctawhatchee Bay Shellfish Harvesting Area, specifically those areas of critical concern which have been identified in the Annual Reevalation of Choctawhatchee Bay Shellfish Harvesting Area through June 2002, prepared by Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Division of Aquaculture.

Project Description:
Eliminate existing septic tanks that are in immediate proximity to the surface waters of the Choctawhatchee Bay and its estuaries. Expansion of existing Freeport STP treatment and disposal systems.

Elimination of 600 septic tanks will restore water quality of Alaqua, LaGrange, and Mallet Bayou's and Jolly Bay, reduce pollutant loadings to the Choctawhatchee Bay and reduce pollutant loadings to the ground water.
