Media Advisory: Palm Beach-Treasure Coast AFL-CIO and Broward AFL-CIO to Host Press Conference on the Florida Legislatures’ Continued Attacks on Home Rule via Massive Preemption Bills

Southeast Florida —

Florida’s Legislature has been chipping away at Home Rule with preemption bills for many years. Legislation currently in the Florida Legislature could end home rule altogether. Senate bills 620 and 280, along with House bills 569 and 403, would give new powers to individual business owners to block any local ordinance they don’t like.

Senate Bill 1124 and House Bill 943 would preempt local wage ordinances, reducing wages for tens of thousands of Florida’s workers and at a time when rents are skyrocketing.

Monday, February 28th, local labor leaders, elected officials, and working people will discuss the effects these bills could have on our communities’ right to govern.

The press conference will be held via Zoom and Facebook Live on the Florida AFL-CIO, Broward AFL-CIO, and Palm Beach-Treasure Coast AFL-CIO Facebook pages.

Please Register in advance for this Zoom Press Conference to avoid any last-minute problems:
