Senator Stewart Calls for More Assistance to Areas with Highest Unemployment
ORLANDO – With the number of newly unemployed in Florida continuing to increase, Senator Linda Stewart (D-Orlando), representing one of the worst affected areas in the state by this crisis, calls for more assistance. The Orlando metro-area continues to have the unemployment rates in the state, with Orange County at 16.1% and Osceola at 20.2%.
“Central Florida is the hospitality capital of the country. Every day that we continue to mismanage this pandemic is another day of increase in Floridians unemployed, this continuation adds strain to an overburdened unemployment system in dire need of a fix,” said Stewart
Senator Stewart will be working to highlight the ongoing and increasing need for specialized assistance to unemployed workers in Central Florida.
“There are thousands not paid in full from their first announced layoff, and now the increase of unemployed applying for benefits is simply going to be another headache. I plan on discussing, with Secretary Satter, the possibility of putting together a team at DEO to specialize in the needs of regions most affected,” said Stewart.
