Senator Farmer, District 34 — Press Release

SENATOR FARMER STATEMENT ON GUN SAFETY LEGISLATION AFTER PARKLAND
Today, I stood with survivors from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting, as well as community activists and elected officials from across Florida in demanding that our State Legislature finally hear common sense gun safety bills in committee. Our call to hear the sensible gun safety legislation already proposed drew thousands from across the south Florida region.
Our rally is just one small example of the millions of people in America demanding change from their elected officials on the topic of sensible gun safety legislation. It is time for our State and Federal governments to deny the powerful gun lobbies and courageously stand up for the people they represent. To me, and many in the Democratic Party it is beyond obvious that bills such as Florida SB 196 and SB 1476 need to be given their time in committee, so that fair debate on how to tackle gun violence in our State can be addressed.
It is my hope that Senate and House leadership in Tallahassee, as well as the Governor will finally act on the calls of the people, and seriously consider real solutions to the gun violence epidemic swallowing our State.
